Up until the mid 1980′s, Gorgona Island was a high security state prison. In the mid-80′s, it became a national park and is now an eco-tourism center. Gorgona Island is a snorkeling and diving paradise. In addition to its lush, tropical forest, Gorgona Island is also know for the annual viist of the migrating humpback whales..
