    No Longer Conceited

    By CruiseDirector | July 3, 2010

Someone who completely abhors cold weather is not the best person to arrange a trip to Antarctica for but there is this woman who appeared to be the worst candidate for the trip but went there not once but twice. If she had another chance to go back, she would take it. No other continent was as cold as this one and the lady knew about this. Actually, what made her decide on this matter is her goal of being one of the few people who ever tried this out. As a person looking for antarctica travel you should visit that site.

Being situated 825 miles from the South Pole, she was a member of a support crew for scientists in 1988 at McMurdo Station on the Ross Ice Shelf. They called her a general field assistant, but today that will make her a go for. Before she ever set one foot on the ice, she first had to read survival in Antarctica, written by the national science foundation. Other than this she also needed vaccinations and an extensive physical exam. Without any medical treatment available there these are important.

Should you require any medical assistance, the only way to get it is to be evacuated by helicopter which does not only cost lots of money for the government but can get other people in harm’s way too. Once in Antarctica, she had to go through an outdoor survival school. Should she find herself far from the base, she will know how to spot a crevasse field and make an adequate sleeping shelter.

Aside from a covered path leading to the bathroom from the ten this had four lavatories and two showers. The weekly allotment for each of them was one two minute shower as what the sign on the door said. Flushing is only done when necessary. Implemented until further notice is this ruling. Extinguishing fires at the station is their main reason for this. They ran equipment all throughout the day in the middle of sub zero temperatures causing many mechanical malfunctions especially at the water plant. As a person looking for trips to antarctica you should visit that site.

This made it more important for water to be saved. Water supplies are allocated for usage in cooking as well as for drinking. What are not considered include water for flushing toilets, taking showers, and for doing the laundry.

Making calls cannot be done without any plans made in advance. Before a call could be made there is a waiting list because air waves can easily be affected by the weather so you really need to wait. Required by the communications link are ham radio operators.

Probably the hardest part of what they had to endure was the cold weather. A recorded temperature of 32 degrees happened during the summer running from October through December. January was when the temperature changed again. The changing temperature was accounted for in her diaries.

Should the weather call for it, working may be done in pairs. Any outdoor travel may not be allowed by the weather. Harsh weather conditions totally disallow any kind of travel. From the isolation she got to know herself even more. Basically, she changed. What she was before the trip was a very boastful person. She is more aware that she cannot control everything that happens. As a result, she’s says she’s more relaxed now.

That continent is rather bizarre. A marvelous experience is what it was, imagine being able to share a firsthand experience with a limited few. Consider how man has gone to every place possible. The powers of man make rivers, the timber, and mountains easily accessible.
