How Traveling To Far Off Places Can Help You To Understand The World Around You.
By CruiseDirector | March 19, 2010
How long can a year be? If you have been working for twelve months without leave it sometimes feels like an eternity. Perhaps you are working for a bank. In the current state of the economy you might have had the stressful experience of referring many clients to a debt consolidation service. Maybe you are a trader, forever waiting for that one forex signal that will make you rich. Whatever job you do, by November you will be tired and irritable. Our advice to you is to store your laptop in it’s laptop bag and catch a plane to a far-off place where you have never been before. A place to regain your strength – ready to fight the good fight again.
If you have never tried it, traveling is without any doubt something you have to put on your bucket list. There is nothing else in the world that can take your mind away from the worries of daily life than three weeks in a place where people don’t understand your language. Where you will go hungry if you don’t learn to say hamburger in Spanish or rice in Chinese.
Somewhere during this process of trying to adjust to all the ‘foreignness’ you will one day suddenly notice that a whole day passed without you thinking of your worries back home. And then another… And soon the problems that looked so massive from nearby will fade into the distance like smoke..
You will meet new and interesting people. People who do things differently to what you are used to. They will still wear clothes, but the clothes will be a little different to what you wear at home. They will eat, maybe even the same food – but the recipes will be different. It won’t taste quite the same.
You will make many new friends. People who once again do things just that little differently to what you know. They might eat different food, or eat the same food but in a different way. They will probably wear different clothes, or perhaps the same as you, but a lot less of it.
If you travel often, to many different places, you will in the end be able to look at your own country, its people and even your own life as an outsider. To see things in perspective again.
The things that seemed so important to you in your own life only a few short weeks ago, might suddenly seem trivial. You might lose prejudices you had for a lifetime, but you will gain perspective that you never had.
