Travel Tips At The Airport
By CruiseDirector | November 30, 2009
None of us really likes going to the airport, unless we’re a plane-spotter.And unfortunatley, airports are becoming busier and busier as more people take to the skies. So what can you do to maxmise your time at one of these much-dreaded buildings?
Can you check in online?
The easiest way of minimising the amount of time you’ll have to spend at an airport is to check in before you even arrive. By doing so, you’ll avoid having to queue for ages at the check in desk. You’ll also be able to use the bag-drop if you choose this option, which is far faster. Most airlines now offer this facility, so check before you fly that you’re eligible.
Less is more
The less you take, the less stress you’ll have. For a start, dragging a load of bags to the airport can be stressful in itself. You’ll likely have to walk some distance to get to your train/taxi/bus, so remember that when you pack. It’ll be much easier to move around if you have fewer bags.
Consider taking hand baggage only
Just taking hand luggage is a great way to save time at the airport. If you do this and check in online, you’ll get through the airport in half the time it would conventionally have taken. Even if you’re taking an international flight, you need only allow one-and-a-half hours. Compare that to the usual route which would take 3 hours.
Pay for lounge access
Did you think business lounge access was only available for business class passengers? Think again.Just do a Google search for the airport you’re going to and ‘lounge’.You can usually buy a 2 hour ticket to one of these for around $20.
Use your time in Lounge access gives you the opportunity to catch up on emails, and often includes free tea and coffee. Buying lounge access is just another way to take yourself away from the stress of the rest of the airport.
