By CruiseDirector | September 2, 2010
Most families take vacations of some sort. However, picking a different sort of vacation, one that’s different than the traditional type of family vacation, is a little difficult. One of the best ways to shake up a family vacation is to just get out of the country. And with rush new passport services, you can be on your way as soon as you like.
There are so many sites all over the world that hold a very special significance for our history as humanity. UNESCO, or United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, labels these sites as World Heritage Sites. There are hundreds of these sites all over the world, and each is required to meet special criteria that make it a World Heritage Site. Europe is a country with very many of these sites. Due to its long history and countless cultural contributions, Europe’s World Heritage Sites are definitely worth seeing first hand.
Traveling around the world, however, requires a passport, even for young children. Child passports are only valid for five years, so if your child’s passport is expired, you will need to fill out a child US passport renewal form.
If you are an archeology buff, you should consider visiting the Archeological Site of Troy which was described by Homer in his poetry. A visit to the site of Troy will take you back in time and give you a glimpse of life as it was in ancient times. You may even recognize some of the sites written about in Homer’s famous poems. Some of Troy’s walls remain and looking toward the Plain of Ilium towards the Aegean Sea will take you back to the days when warriors fought to honor the gods.
Italy has the honor of containing the largest number of World Heritage Sites located in any one European country. With that number being 44, you can just imagine all there is to see and experience. A unique and beautiful train ride awaits you on the Rhaetian Railway. While traveling through Italy and continuing on to Switzerland, the vacationer is treated to views of snow topped mountains, beautiful meadows and vistas that will take your breath away. You will journey through mountain tunnels and see spectacular scenes that you will always remember.
Spain is a close second for number of World Heritage Sites with 41. Some of these sites include old cities, grand cathedrals, and beautiful natural national parks. Teide National Park is listed as one of the Twelve Wonders of Spain. Featuring a monstrous active volcano, this National Park is the most visited National Park in Spain.
If you travel farther north to Alta, Norway, you can experience perhaps the oldest prehistoric rock art available for viewing on the face of the earth. These carvings are believed to date back to 4200 BC and detail what life was like for our very first relatives. Over 5000 pieces of this ancient art can be found in Europe providing a rare opportunity to see a pictorial diary of prehistoric man.
Traveling the world can provide an excellent opportunity for your and your family to enrich themselves with knowledge of mankind’s earliest beginnings. It also presents an opportunity to bonding relationships and creating memories but you have to have a passport to travel to Europe. If you require rush United States passport services because you waited longer than you should have, or perhaps a child’s passport renewal. Whatever your need, an online passport site can do all the work for you as you seek to open the windows of Europe and its World Heritage Sites to your family.
